Dániel Gazdag joins Philadelphia Union - "Versatile" midfielder with record fee
Major League Soccer side Philadelphia Union have signed Hungarian midfielder Dániel Gazdag. Transfermarkt first reported that a deal was completed on Tuesday. Gazdag has signed a two-year contract, and the Union will have options for a third and a fourth year. Hungarian side Honvéd will receive around $1.8 million, including easy to reach bonus payments, which makes Gazdag the second most expensive player overall and the most expensive attacking midfielder in club history.
“We are excited to welcome Daniel to the Philadelphia Union. He is a versatile player who can play multiple positions in the midfield as well as at striker and has the ability to make an immediate impact,” Philadelphia Union sporting director Ernst Tanner in a club statement. “His aggressive style of play has made him a top finisher in the Hungarian league and a good fit for our system.”
Gazdag arrives in MLS after a strong season with Honvéd, where he has scored 18 goals and eight assists in 34 games. The 25-year-old will join the club immediately and will occupy an international roster slot.
