Kane and Sancho in €1 billion XI: The most valuable EURO 2020 line-up
Whether this team would win the European Championship, we do not know. But at least one thing is certain: Out of all the participating nations and players in this year’s tournament, this is the most valuable XI of the European Championship in terms of market values!
One thing in advance, however: Of course, it is always a question of the system. If you wanted to field the eleven most valuable players in the European Championship in one team, you would need eight free places in attacking positions alone, even if a striker stood in goal. And as bitter as it may be to have to leave out Raheem Sterling, Bruno Fernandes or Marcus Rashford, the TM XI of the most valuable European Championship players is formed in a (more realistic) 3-5-2 system. The nice thing is that with the different Transfermarkt tools you can also try out completely different systems.
In the TM top XI, there is now room for the five most valuable players of the tournament, all of whom will be deployed in attack or attacking midfield. Kylian Mbappé (PSG), the world’s most valuable footballer and one of two Frenchmen in the selection, moves to the left side of attack to make room for Harry Kane (Tottenham) and Romelu Lukaku (Inter) in the centre. The second Englishman of the line-up next to Kane, Jadon Sancho (BVB), starts on the right side and in the number 10 position, playmaker Kevin De Bruyne (Man City), a second Belgian next to Lukaku gets the nod. The attacking quintet thus also consists of all players at the tournament who have a market value of €100 million or more. Combined, the five bring a total market value of €580 million to the attack of the most valuable XI.
Most valuable EURO 2020 XI: Sterling, Rashford and Fernandes miss out
Manchester City’s Sterling, Man United’s Rashford, and teammate Fernandes – no less than three of the ten most valuable players at the European Championship find no place in the top XI, given the strong competition. In front of the defence, Barcelona’s Frenkie de Jong is joined by Germany’s top player Joshua Kimmich (Bayern Munich) as the most valuable defensive midfielder and the only German in the team. The defence is only formed by three players due to the dominant attack.
Most valuable players at the Euros
The two most valuable defenders of the tournament, Portugal’s Rúben Dias (Man City) and the second Dutchman in the team, Matthijs de Ligt (Juventus), along with France’s second most valuable player, Raphaël Varane (Real Madrid), ensure that no outfield player in the top XI is below a market value of €70 million. Total value of the team plus goalkeeper: €1.04 billion.
In goal alone, the nomination will be decided between two keepers below the €70 million mark: Belgium’s tournament-experienced keeper Thibaut Courtois (Real Madrid) and youngster Gianluigi Donnarumma (Milan), who is about to play in his first European Championship. Both have the same market value of €60 million since the last updates. The choice in the TM editorial team fell – democratically – on Courtois. You see it differently? With the TM tool My Dream Team, registered users can put together and share their dream team (regardless of market value) quite freely. The most valuable XI of different systems, for individual nations or even without specific countries and according to age groups can be generated with the freely accessible tool Most valuable XI.
